Just found a couple videos from friday on youtube

Posted by Chris Murphy On August - 31 - 2009

I was checking through you tube as I normally do here and there when I see someone video taping at my shows.. waiting for the vid to surface. I found the video that was taken of Potsy friday night. I love it when people video the shows and throw them up on youtube because it gives me something interesting to put up on the site. The sound and video quality on these videos arent bad either. Kudos to “MissScarlett027″ for doing the video. I noticed when she took the video at the show she placed the camera on a table too… I hate shakey video.. so thanks for doing that! They were super talented. The bass player actually majored in upright bass in college! The band was tight and, for me at least, felt like a pearljam/rush hybrid without a singer. I really enjoyed their set it was progressive with some great groves. Here are the videos from www.youtube.com

Where were you?!

ARMS AGAINST THE SEA || THE ALLEY|| 8-28-09

Tonight was the worst turnout yet.. but I understand. For some of you, school started this week .. for others .. its the last week free before school. In either case the show was awesome and the 18 people that did show up got to hog up all the fun. There were some issues with a couple bands that caused them to drop from the night but all in all the show still went great. I leared a valueable lesson on this show. Never buy batteries from Dollar Tree. MY flash literally was able to take 4 pictures and the batteries were dead. No flash meant I had to use either the body flash or use the 1.8 50mm lens. I opted for the 50mm. I took a few good pictures but with the low light I had to up my ISO and the pics resulted in some noisiness. Oh well. Moral of the story.. you get what you pay for. Don’t trust dollar tree batteries.
Arms Against a Sea put on a great set. They were the only band that showed up on time and in this instance it didnt really work to their favor.. they ended up starting things off since they were the only band there with equipment. The good thing was the 18 people that did show  happened to be there at the start of things so they did have a little crowd to play for. Their set, as usual was great.  I can’t wait to get them back. I did a shirt trade with them to get one of their shirts for myself :)

A Breath Beyond Broken ended up playing this show after Elyson requested that I have them play. I’m very very glad I agreed. They were explosive and well put together. Chick singer with two screamers/backup vocals. Really well balanced and the lead vocalist was great. This makes the 2nd band with female lead vocals  that I enjoyed listening to.  Cavendar played a few weeks back (female lead)  Its great to see the scene has found some great female leads.. they are hard to find in this circle. Most female leads are painful to listen to and are awkward on stage. The singer from A Breath Beyond Broken  belonged on that stage. Great stuff. I invited them to come back and play  next week at the Tiny Fest.. I hope they decide to do it!

Elyson. Elyson used 99% of A Breath Beyond Broken’s gear. Their set was pretty good. The vocalist decided to climb the stacks and jump off of the top of them. It was interesting. I was surprised he got away with it without the sound guy giving him an earful. They did a Heavy cover of some Eminem song to start things off… It was pretty good.  I think if there were more kids there they probably would have moved around a little for them.

The Speed of Film ended up playing last since Nemes had to drop of last minute as a result of some band internal conflicts. Unfortunately for The Speed of Film the room cleared out pretty good before/during their set. One great thing about TSOF is they put on a great show regardless of what is happening in the room.  I tried to get some different angles and pictures this time around since I shot them recently, a couple weeks back. They decided to do a shirt order with me .. which is pretty cool, Looking forward to doing their shirts.

Potsy was the only band from the 21+ side of the night that didn’t cancel on me last minute. I was blown away by the talent in this group. Growing up with a drummer for a father usually my focus is on the drummer. Potsy came flying out of the gate with awesome progressive groves and technical time signatures. They were tight and fantastic. A fairly good crowd came to check them out. 100% instrumental set but thoroughly interesting. I really hope to get them back over here at some point in the future when I know I have a good crowd already coming.

Check out the Flickr photos from the night www.flickr.com.photos/tinygiantclothing

next week is TINY FEST!! $5 for probably 10+ bands and its ALL Ages ALL NIGHT! come check it out its going to be awesome. Checkout the shows page to get more details!

Epic Night, Crazy Storm

Posted by Chris Murphy On August - 22 - 2009

3844991136_8196c15917-1Last night was an amazing night. Nearly 80 people showed up for the show and everyone had a great time. Near the end of the show a massive thunderstorm raced by the venue with an amazing light show. The rain was coming down so fast that there was literally a river running through the parking lot. Made for an interesting time for The Brethren having to load in during the storm.  It passed by quickly but was very fierce. There were actually tornado warnings an hour north of us. Any who lets get to the bands.
Conflagration ended up kicking things off since Nuclear Decay dropped last minute after finding out two of their band members were quitting. This pushed the show to start at 5:30 but it gave kids more time to show up and made it a better experience for the band, having more people to play for. Their set was pretty good, kids seemed to move around a little for them. I’d like to see them get a little tighter  but all in all they were fun to watch and had a lot of talent.
Blood of a Cynic as always brought a large following. Its good to see that local metal isn’t dead. These guys bring out 20-30 people where ever I book them.  They put on a great show, despite having a brand new drummer. Their set was really tight and they always work the crowd and make sure everyone is having fun. The kids moved around a lot for them. The epic metal hands were abundant. Because of the newer drummer not knowing all of the songs their set was a little shorter than normal but it was still really good. If the band sticks with it i could see a bright future for these guys.
Enough Said put on a ferocious set as always, in your face heavy  hardcore/metal. The Kids really moved around for them, which they were surprised about since they had to ditch the bass and have the bassist play drums since the drummer couldn’t get off work in time. For being a make shift drummer he did and awesome job and I probably wouldn’t have even known he wasn’t the normal drummer. As you can see above, they also brought out a good amount of metal fists.
Excrecor was unbelievable. I could almost leave it at that. They were extremely technical, fast and brooooootal. Every member of the band was a master at their craft. If you haven’t had the chance to see these guys I really recommend hitting up a show of theirs. I’ll be booking them again soon enough. I guess last nights show was the first one in almost a year as they have been recording for a while. I’m very glad they came out of the cave to brutalize our eardrums.
The Brethren was sort of up in the air for the beginning of the show, since the singer was having phone and car troubles and no one knew for sure if he even knew about the show. Luckily, he ended up making it and they put on an awesome show. I snapped a ton of awesome pictures of them and one that looked like Greg was giving Josh (the singer) a rectal exam.  The set was flippin sweet.  They alway give us a good time. Another band that doesn’t play all that often but when they do you better be there.
Before the end of the all ages show people started showing up for the 21+ side of the night. which was both good and bad. The 21+ side of the night hasn’t been doing all that great in the past couple weeks but the bands we had playing brought out nearly 40 people and the bar finally did pretty well.
Two sided season was great. Well crafted groves and everyone on the stage had a great presence and knew what they were doing.  The vocalist had a great range and really got the crowd involved. I’d definitely like to get them back at the club really soon :)
Kemosabi surprised me. I didn’t expect them to be as heavy as they were. Their guitarist was amazing and the singer looked almost too young to be there :). They seemed to bring an equal crowd as 2 Sided Season and had a good amount of people standing up at the stage enjoying the show. I was very pleasantly surprised when the band did an acoustic song and the drummer came out and sang. Their drummer has an awesome voice and i think they should get him a mic behind the kit to sing along with their screamer/vocalist. He really blew me away with his range and control. I can see why the band had the following that they did :)
The Project 7 not being from the area lost some of the crowd  and toward the end of the night lost most of the crowd. From what  I heard there was a party at one of the other bands house right after the show so most of the people headed in that direction. Which is kinda lame, it would have been cool of them to try to keep some people there for them. I like it when bands hang around and listen to other sets. But whatever. They missed out. The Project 7 put on a great set. They were all really tight. Great tight drumming, progressive and its been a while since I’ve seen a band with the drummer as the main singer.  One of the guitarists did backup vocals that were on key and great.   I hope to get them back soon to try to get them a bigger crowd as they are trying to spread their fan base out of Maine and break into the scene we have in the dover area.
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole night. All the bands were great, professional and on time! Lately i’ve been dealing with bands fighting summer traffic to get to the shows and its been messing with the schedules. Last night flowed really well. A HUGE thanks to everyone who played and came out to the show last night. It was fun to see everyone and I hope to see all of you next week too!

Here are are some Videos of Excrecor from the show!

Another Great Show You Missed!

Posted by Chris Murphy On August - 22 - 2009

Well last night at The Alley was another great night. The attendance was pretty low for a TLTH show but the night was still a blast. Challenges showed up super late because of traffic and nemes showed up just before their set. Traffic in New Hampshire coming from Mass on fridays is murder. Everyone from mass comes up to camp. Any who,  Even though we had a bunch of foot-draggers getting there for one reason or another we still had a great night and everything ended only 15min later than it should have. Hopefully the 60 or so people who were there last night will tell their friends about this venue and really start packing the place.  Unfortunately for the club  pretty much no one went bowling this week. so really no one made out on the show… which is okay .. we are just starting things.  Too late had an awesome response from everyone at the show  kids singing along, dancing, its really hard not to have fun with Too Late. Once again the sound and staff at the club was awesome. Challenges was pretty good too.. reminded me of older Blink 182 stuff. The singer seemed pretty young but they were a pretty talented bunch of guys. Nemes, as always, put on an awesome show. They are coming back on the 28th of Aug. Tell all your friends! The Speed of Film are another bunch of guys who put on a good show. I am always left with my jaw on the floor when their bassist plays. He is probably in the top two bassists  in the area, that i know of.  Cavender was really really good. To be blunt.. its hard for me to dig a girl fronted band. Usually the girls are pitchy and awkward on stage. Drew, the singer, had a great stage presence and had a great sound.  I felt bad for FTSS, since Challenges showed late they had to be bumped to play first, at the time only 20 or so people had arrived. Despite the small crowd and thier singer not being there they still had a great performance and really set the pace for the show.  I am super appreciative to everyone who came out last night and everyone who played.

Its a shame that the 21+ side of the night couldnt house the underagers too. The Outsiders, The Murder Weapon and The Pubcrawlers were awesome. Rockabilly and Psychobilly at its finest. The Pubcrawlers are sort of like Drop Kick Murphy’s but with their own touch. I really enjoyed them but the whole time couldn’t stop thinking of Sponge Bob… lol.  The turnout for the 21+ show as basically comprised of the bands, their g/f and wives and 7 people from the area. They still put on a kick arse show.

Skate Park in the Morning and HXC at Night!

Posted by Chris Murphy On August - 15 - 2009

Friday I decided to start the morning at the print shop getting flyers printed up then I figured  I would walk down to the skate park again. I spent a couple hours there shooting bmx bikers and there were a couple skaters that showed up toward the end of my stay. The kid in this picture above was practicing 180s and started landing them shortly after getting there. There were also two other skaters there too. One that I’ve shot before and one I hadn’t seen before. The one I hadn’t seen spent the entire time trying to land what looked like a hardflip 180 or a Nightmare flip 180. I don’t think i saw him land it. It reminded me of the days when  I used to skate and kids would try the hardest trick they could possibly land to make it look like their ability was higher than it really was. :)
The BMX Bikers were giving me tons to shoot and they were super excited that i was there taking pics. They also asked a ton about free Tiny Giant Clothing t-shirts. The first day I hit the park I brought 5-6 shirts and gave them out for free.  I have a large box of shirts that I plan to print up this week and bring down there and maybe make them play some skate games for :)  Check out the flickr page to see the pics from the session.

Portsmouth, NH

Posted by Chris Murphy On August - 12 - 2009

My wife and I ran around Portsmouth today putting up flyers and dropping them off anywhere I could for the show friday. While in-route walking around downtown,  we stumbled upon a lady playing a saw. She used a bow from violin and stroked the saw to make this odd pitch that she bent to make some cool sounding music.  it was quite amazing and probably pretty rare to see. Looks like she makes a couple bucks doing it  as her violin case had some cash in it.  I snapped the picture as we stood there for a minute on our way to bullmoose music and the identity skate shop.
Tomorrow the wife and I have to landscape then print some shirts for a new clothing line called Confident Soles. The two guys that are starting the line are great and have a great vision of positive idea on fashionable designs. Most of the sayings are empowering and witty.

I’m off to get ready for bed. I’ll catch you all on the flip side :)

Ready for the Show?!

Posted by Chris Murphy On August - 6 - 2009

aug7thfullwebThe wife and I had a long hot day of work, and we’re pretty beat but tomorrow we have an awesome show lined up. Too Late The Hero is headlining the ages side of the night. The 21+ side of the night should be really fun with  Irish punk and rockabilly.  Our first show last week was really awesome.. I can only hope that this week is even better.  The club is absolutely awesome and I am really appreciative to have such an awesome spot to be booking out of.  The owners are also very happy to have us there as well and offer 1/2 off the rock and bowl and 10% off food to anyone with a hand stamp.  I hope to see you tomorrow night!  I’m going to sit back and relax with the wifey and watch some TV.  Tomorrow morning i have to print flyers for next weeks show and get things in order for the show. I’ll probably take some time and head down to the rochester skate park in the morning to snap some more pics.  See you there!

Hitting The Park

Posted by Chris Murphy On August - 5 - 2009

I spent today at the skate park in Rochester, NH. I planned on heading down there to snap some shots of kids at the skate park. The park is only 3-4 blocks from my house so its something I plan on frequenting. I really expected to find skateboarders at the skatepark but quickly discovered that BMX bikers completely outnumbered the skaters. The  guys at the park were very talented and were complete camera whores… which i was very happy to oblige. I hope to maybe start showcasing some of these kids to help get them some exposure.  Cody Zombeck is pictured above and gave the camera plenty of eye candy to shoot. He is a very confident biker. From what I heard he has a quarter pipe at his house and frequents the Rye Air Field. You can tell he spends alot of time on his bike. Hopefully it will pay off for him.

Tomorrow we have to work. Landscaping…bleh. Hopefully things will continue to grow in our efforts to free us from crappy summer jobs like this. For the time being we work a couple days a week to keep the bills paid. But our passion is not landscaping and its something we would love to kick to the curb as soon as we can find something that pays the bills that we enjoy doing.

I guess thats enough for tonight,
Chris Murphy
